Record-setting Lunch

Well, if it wasn't a record, it came darn close. We had 10 at the lunch at Gurus!

Jamie, Marshall, Wayne, Kevin Sanders, Sean, Jason Bell, Bishop Paul, Wendy, Dave Graham and I enjoyed some great good and we heard all about Paul's bicycle mishap...We even saw his wicked scar!

The Utah County lunches will be done in the Orem/Provo area moving forward...it seems to work better for everyone.

Indiana Jones Returns

After 19 years, Indiana Jones returns to theaters on May 22nd. How practical would it be to have an EMBA movie excursion? It would be a very low frills way of commemorating the 1 year anniversary of our FBEs.

Saturday, the 24th, is probably the best choice. Some people might be able to sneak away from work, but it's hard to plan on something like that.

I'm guessing that the Cinemark theaters in A.F. would be the most central location. Please comment.

May lunch plans

Instead of saying, "The May lunch will be here, so see you there," I'm going to tell you where we are thinking of having the lunch: Chilis in American Fork. It would be on Friday, May 16th.

Some have expressed the preference for places where you get in line and order, which tends to result a quicker meal experience. If there aren't strong objections to Chilis, we'll plan on 11:45, so that we are a little ahead of the lunch rush.

We'll keep an eye on the comments and if there aren't any objections, we'll plan on it. And Skeemer, don't complain just to be funny. I'm watching you.

For the record, the Chilis in A.F. is at 765 West State Road, which is directly East of the Best Buy. If you are coming from the north, take the Lehi Main Street Exit. If you are coming from the south, take AF Main Street exit.

For the love of barbecue

Friends, let us gather anew on the morrow to celebrate our profound and lasting freedom from school. Let us celebrate the small and large victories of our emancipation (you all know Paul got a hefty raise, right?).

Tomorrow’s EMBA lunch is set for Goodwood in Orem. Goodwood is known for barbecue, but the establishment has a long history of standing up for our nation.

In this, they share a place with others in the history of our great nation, names that stand above others. Indeed, a veritable roll call of magnificence that we may never see matched in all the remaining years of human existence—Jefferson, Franklin, Adams, Henry, Washington—shared something in common. In addition to all living a long time ago they all, to a man, loved good barbecue. The proof?

George Washington could never tell a lie, and he could never dig into a heaping serving of brisket without his famed ivory teeth.

Thomas Jefferson, the Sage of Monticello, perhaps the brightest star in the entire American firmament, coined the famous phrase, “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of spare ribs.” Less well known is this stirring declaration: “And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred barbecue sauce.”

Ben Franklin, that rascally writer, scientist, statesman, claimed, “Barbecue is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” And, while he did say, “A penny saved is a penny earned,” his earlier version stated, “A smoked pig tastes great any day of the year.”

John Adams, who will soon star as himself in an HBO miniseries, states, “Children should be educated and instructed in the principles of marinating, basting, smoking, and barbecuing.”

• Last but not least, the fiery Virginian Patrick Henry, spoke for us all when he exclaimed, “Give me baby backs or give me death!”

If you have never been to Goodwood, I can nearly guarantee you will love it. And if you like BBQ…why in the world have you never been to Goodwood? Here’s a link to the menu.

I’m not sure why, but the menu doesn’t show prices. You can expect generous lunch specials for about $10 or less…
